How To Apply

The Adelaide Hospital Society, through the Adelaide School of Nursing, has the responsibility, under the Charter of The Adelaide & Meath Hospital, Dublin, Incorporating the National Children's Hospital, of selecting students for nurse education at the Adelaide School of Nursing.  In selecting applicants the Society has regard to its particular obligation to applicants from the Protestant community and to members of inter-church families.  It has regard also to the multi-denominational and plurist character of the hospital.

Applicants who put the Adelaide School of Nursing on their CAO list (TR093 or TR094) will be sent an Application Form in mid March.  Applicants should complete the form carefully and give a short outline of their reasons for applying to the Adelaide School of Nursing.

Applicants should also supply three references from the following:

NOTE: References must be enclosed with the Application Form; it is not sufficient to provide names of referees

  1. The Principal or Vice-Principal of their present or last attended school.
  2. A Minister of Religion or chaplain who knows the applicant well.
  3. Another person (examples include youth leader or voluntary work supervisor) who can provide a general reference for the applicant based on their knowledge of the applicant.
  4. In the case of mature applicants and employer who knows the applicant well.

The latest date for receipt of the completed Application Form is Noon on Friday 4th April 2008.

On the basis of the Application Form the Adelaide Hospital Society will decide which applicants will be called for interview.  Subsequent to the interview the Adelaide Hospital Society will advise the Central Applications Office which applicants are eligible for an offer of a place in The Adelaide School of Nursing. Offers of places will be issued by The Central Applications Office based upon the points obtained in the Leaving Certificate or upon performance in the selected procedures in the case of mature applicants.  The offer will be based on the expressed preferences of the applicant for particular schools of nursing as far as places are available.

The Adelaide Hospital Society offers bursaries to students whose financial means merits support.   A full bursary is valued at €3,000 and bursaries of 100%, 75%, 50% or 25% may be awarded.  These bursaries are awarded to assist student nurses undertake their nurse education in circumstances where financial barriers may affect their own preference to choose the Adelaide School of Nursing. The Bursary will be awarded on the basis of the separate, confidential Bursary Application Form available from the Adelaide Hospital Society.  Personal financial information and personal details of bursary awards are strictly confidential.  Please indicate in the place provided on the Application Form if you wish to be sent a Bursary Application Form and further details concerning those awards.
