Volunteer Service
Since the Volunteer Programme began in June 1998 it has grown and developed and is now visible proof of the Hospital's commitment to its voluntary character. On opening day the Volunteer Service started with a 'meet and greet' policy. This involved volunteers acting as guides for patients and their visitors attending the Hospital for the first time. As people have become more familiar with the Hospital the need for this service has decreased. However, a limited service is still provided in the Out-Patients Department on busy days.
The development of the Volunteer Coffee Bar has proved to be a huge success. This service commenced in December 1998 and has rapidly become an established part of the Hospital. Patients, their relatives and visitors can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, at a reasonable cost, served by friendly volunteers who have the time to chat to them. The Coffee Bar is open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. With more volunteers these hours could be extended.
Occasional Lunch time recitals by a String Quartet have added atmosphere to the Coffee Shop.
Other volunteer activity include a Patient Library service and, in the pipeline, a Gardening Scheme.
Volunteers are always needed and very welcome. If you would like to join the Volunteer Team in the Hospital, please contact:
